Welcome to the Forum!

You could start it in the Terminal and see if You get any Errors. Simply type in the Terminal steam to start it.

As an Alternative, You could uninstall it and install the Version from Steam directly:

using terminal does it but it seem like this is my only way to open steam

You could try if this helps:

its working now, thank you

I'd also recommend you to switch to XOrg if you use Zorin core. Logout, and at loginscreen click on your username, then a cog wheal appears. There you set "Zorin desktop on XOrg".

Yep, I had the exact same problem, even with Steam Flatpak. So, I created a Desktop shortcut, that would popup a dialog box, to allow me to click on, "Execute In A Terminal."

I used the Steam Icon for the shortcut.

This is the code I put in the txt file to make this work...

So all I got to do is double click the shortcut, pops up the dialog choices, click "Execute In A Terminal," Steam GUI launches. Bobs your uncle, Fanies your aunt, life is good.
