Sudo password

I am new to Zorin and Linux. I had Zorin installed on my computer by a computer shop.

I am trying to load some software. When I enter the sudo command, the response I get is "[sudo] password for tom". tom is my user account. When I put in my account password, I get "tom is not in the sudoers file"

Does anybody know how to solve this problem? I think I need to add myself to the sudoers file, but I don't know how to do it. The guy who installed Zorin said he did not have a separate password. Thanks for any help.

Okay, how do I do that?

Sorry, I didn't see the link.

Thanks.

This error message always reminds me of this hilarious cartoon:
