Suggestions For ZorinOS

I'm somewhat of a new user to ZorinOS, and I just thought I would pass along a few basic suggestions for the Zorin team to consider implementing in the future. I came up with a very simple list of suggestions to help improve the user experience when Zorin is first installed. I'm not trying to suggest anything big here, just a few minor things that Zorin should REALLY consider including in the core installation.

#1. Add a feature to centre all new windows.

I know it doesn't take much to download the tweaks program and turn this on, but I don't see why this feature shouldn't come straight out of the box.

#2. More folder colour options (including black).

I'm not sure why Zorin doesn't have more options when it comes to folder colour choices. I really don't like any of the choices that come standard with the system, and I don't see why I have to install a separate extension just to get black folders on my desktop. It seems very counter-intuitive to me.

#3. Add a "Show Desktop" button on the right side of the taskbar.

Once again I realise that you can install an extension to add this feature to Zorin, but I really don't see why this feature isn't included with the initial install.

#4. Add more desktop icon size options.

I have been trying to get my icon sizes right for a few days now, and I just can't seem to figure it out. Zorin only gives you 4 options for folder sizes, and I find that the standard option is too small (on a 1440p display) and the large option is too big. I would have thought that the custom scaling option would help, but it doesn't. It should be like Windows. Left control + mouse scroll wheel.

Other than that I don't have much else to complain about. I find ZorinOS to be a really great distro for new users coming from Windows, but I just hope we'll see more positive changes coming in the future.

Isn't this a feature in Zorin Appearance? See Interface -> New Window Placement

Thanks for the tip! I didn't realise it was even there. I still think it should be there by default, but it's great to know that the option still exists. :slightly_smiling_face:

Yes, you can adjust this in the settings, but I was simply pointing out that this should come as the standard out of the box experience when you install Zorin. Most of my suggestions fall into the category of "should be the default".

The biggest problem for me is that when I change the layout I lose the customizations made in the task bar.

That's why I don't even play with it anymore. I've been wanting to try another layout for days, but I'm avoiding it. :joy:

Very good point. It would be very useful option to be able to save own's configuration of layouts in Zorin appearance, including activation of user-installed extensions (which is currently the case, afaik), position/size/transparency of bars, etc..
