Super (Windows) Key Busted after 17.3 Upgrade

Pretty much as the title says. I upgraded to 17.3 on my PC and it caused my NVIDIA graphics drivers to quit working (fixed that part already), but more importantly now the Windows key just seems to do nothing anymore lol

I rely on that for accessing my taskbar because I'm a taskbar hider, so I kinda need it. Any thoughts?

What Region & Language settings are you using?
If you can give Computer specs; they may help: Notebook computer with built in keyboard or Desktop PC with external USB keyboard...

Desktop PC with Zorin OS 17.3 in English (US)
Specs are
Ryzen 7 5700X3D and an RTX 4070, 32GB DDR4 RAM @ 3600Mhz

Well, I can think of two possibilities:

  • Kernel upgrade affected your hardware, in this case, keyboard driver.

  • Upgrade is coincidental to a physical problem.

Can you try booting from an earlier kernel from your Grub menu? See if the keyboard keys all work.
If that is no good, check if there is something gumming up the works under the key or the keyboard needs cleaning...

Or the Key designation got changed accidentally on upgrade. Think it is under the appearance settings. Not in Zorin at the moment so cant check.

It could be indeed, I remember that when I upgraded to 17.3 the interactive screenshot was remapped to Prt Scrn that was being used as instant screenshot. This means that any user that was using Super for toggling the taskbar is having this issue :grimacing:. I don't, I use it to toggle the activities overview and no update or upgrade ever broke or remapped it.

It's of note that the windows key does still work when I boot into Windows 11 (I'm dual booting). I'm not home this second, but when I get home I'll try to play with earlier kernels and test.

Update: I gave up and reinstalled my OS and now it works. Sigh

Sounds painful; but at least you got your key back to operational...
