Support for Zorin OS 17 Lite Ending in 2027 – Update Questions

Hi everyone, i am new to Linux.

As far as i know, Zorin OS Lite will stop receiving official update support in 2027. I have a couple of related questions:

  1. Will applications installed via the Software Store, including those from Flatpak (Flathub), also stop receiving updates once Zorin OS Lite reaches end‑of‑life?

  2. Brave browser comes pre‑installed on Zorin OS Lite. If Brave stops getting updates after 2027, can I uninstall the built‑in version and then install the Flatpak release from Flathub via the Software Store to keep it up to date?

Any insights or experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

You will still receive APP updates, until those APP's get updated for the next Ubuntu/Gnome/XFCE version only. Additionally, you continue to get security updates, until your Ubuntu/Gnome/XFCE version reaches end of life.

You will no longer however, get updates from Zorin OS specific APPS & services, once Lite reaches end of life. Take me for example, I'm still on OS 16, I still can get APP updates, but I can't update my Gnome extensions, nor get security updates.

You can uninstall & install any internet browser you wish, now and later. Yes, you can choose to use APT or Flatpack, there are no restrictions as far as that. Brave, Firefox, Chrome, whatever you want.

Linux = freedom, enjoy. :slightly_smiling_face:

I believe there will be a Zorin 18 Lite version. I assume there will be an upgrade available from 17 to 18, meaning there will be updates until 2029. Please correct me if this is wrong.

Yes, Zorin lite can be used until June 2029:

Thats good to hear.

Correct.
I have amended the title of this thread to indicate "...Zorin OS 17 Lite..." to avoid headline panic and confusion.
