System freezes and glitched screen

my laptop just crashes , laptop works fine after a reboot and suddenly crashes

i will be restoring through timeshift , but what is the cause of this ?

Which version of Zorin are you using?

It could be caused through a kernel update (e.g. when you have a nvidia card). If there was a kernel update you could try to boot into an earlier kernel. In grub menu choose advanced options for Zorin and select an earlier kernel.

Probably there are issues with the graphics drivers.

Did you use a special program when this happened? What are your hardware specifications (brand, model of your computer, CPU, RAM, graphics..)?
Disabling hardware acceleration in browser can help against artifacts.
Are you on Wayland or Xorg? Try to switch to Xorg.

What have You done before this happened? A bit more Details would be nice. And like @Forpli I would ask for the Hardware Specs.

  • GPU: AMD Radeon (integrated in Ryzen 5300U)
  • Kernel: You didn’t try an older one, but the problem went away after restoring with Timeshift
  • System: HP 15s, 8 GB RAM
  • Trigger event: Happened while watching a movie on VLC
  • Display server: Likely Wayland
  • Browser acceleration: Already off
  • Current status: Issue resolved after restoring the system

You could try to switch to Xorg because with Xorg there are often less problems. Logout and at loginscreen click on your profile. Then a cog wheal appears where you can set "Zorin desktop on Xorg".
