Telegram, installed but will not display

I have installed and removed Telegram twice, it shows that it is installed and the icon shows on the task bar, click on it and I assume it starts but nothing displays, all other software I have installed is working OK, I am new to Linux and still learning how to use the terminal. I started on Linux Mint and it worked OK there, any help would be appreciated, I started on Commodore 64 and then Windows 3.1, it took me a while but I have learnt my lesson. :joy:

Try it with

rm -rf ~/.cache/fontconfig
fc-cache -vr

and then logout.

I appreciate your help and please excuse my lack of understanding at this time as I am still trying to get my head around working with Linux, can you explain a bit more for me, as in:

Do I install Telegram and then enter the above starting with sudo apt rm -rf etc, and then exit terminal or logout of Telegram, as you can see I am a bit behind the eight ball at this time.
Regards

You wrote that you have telegram installed.
Close all apps. Then open the terminal and enter the first command and press the enter key.
Then enter the second command and press enter.
Then logout and login again and open telegram.

Welcome to the Forum!

Yes, have Telegram installed.

You don't need to sudo apt before these Commands. Use them as they are written on at a Time.

When Logout-Login shouldn't change anything, use the Commands again and then do a Reboot.

Hi Forpli, Thanks for your help the fix worked as written, Telegram started straight away, shut down and rebooted and checked that it started again, all good, thanks for your help, anywhere you can suggest that I may start learning how to use Terminal, maybe "Terminal for Dummies". :+1: :ghost:

Welcome...Ya dont fear the terminal.. it truly is your friend, helps with alot of problems and does help install/remove apts when needed. Good to hear the telegram apt is working now.

I've never sat down and specifically memorized terminal commands. In Internet you find lists with frequently used commands.
I didn't know these ones here either until recently, because when everything works, you don't need them. This problem only arose due to a recent change in font management in Chromium-based browsers, which affected a wide variety of apps.
If you read this forum regularly, you’ll learn the most important commands over time.

Or this site (I haven't checked if everything is right, but the quick cheatsheet gives a good overview):
