Testing Budgie and other DE on Zorin

I wasn't able to switch the theme at all. I tried to add elementary tweaks with these commands

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:philip.scott/elementary-tweaks
sudo apt update
sudo apt install elementary-tweaks

but it is old and there was an error that the ppa had no release candidate for ubuntu noble.

That PPA is ancient. Search for tweak in software center. It's a flatpak.

or

flatpak install flathub io.github.pantheon_tweaks.pantheon-tweaks

Flatpaks don't work for me in live session, they are too big. Especially now after installing Pantheon, I probably don't have any RAM left. The installation felt huge. When the RAM is filled the package manager stops working and I can only shutdown so I don't want to risk that now.

But good to know that there is the possibility to change themes, thank you for the information!

Why don't you try a real elementary live session, instead of build ontop of Zorin? Pantheon is very light that way.

Just put 0 $ in the download option.

I can try that...For me it is just easier to test other desktops with the .isos I already have on my stick, and I want to explore what is possible in Zorin and what can be changed easily and what leads to problems.

The fact that the Windows close and maximize buttons were on different sides of the window irritated me the most and could not be changed. There was also no minimize button.

That can be changed by Tweak in Window control layout.

Where is that? I don't have settings for windows.
I tried to install dconf-tools because I read that it is needed to change the buttons of the windows, but the package isn't found.

Thats normal settings you need the tweak. It got its own icon somewhere, but not in settings.

Ah, you mean the other flatpak app tweaks, now I understand.
The normal settings are not very extensive.

If you get it to work. You can test my eDroid icons for elementary: eDroid - Gnome-look.org

I got an error when I tried to install the pantheon-tweaks flatpak - not enough space on the RAM, It would need nearly 1 GiB and available are 400 MB.

Most be because it's flatpak.

Yes, with normal .deb packages I never had problems also not with installing other DE. But flatpaks and snaps are huge compared to .debs.

My first look into Orbitiny desktop today, installed on Zorin 18 live session... Many desktop icons, it looks very confusing, I need to find my way around first.

The file manager is special from the look. Interesting. You can adjust many things in this desktop, some are similar like in Enlightenment/Moksha (the menu which opens on a right click on the desktop).
