Hi. If I were still running Zorin one of the first things I would remove is 'gnome-software' (Software).
Instead take a look at Apper. This will install software and updates to software but not the system. I always found it fast on Devuan.
For app installs and system updates I would recommend Synaptic Package Manager, and for a speedier install than using Software, open a terminal (just type the word terminal in the menu search bar and press Enter) and at the prompt type:
sudo apt install synaptic
You will need to provide your login password to elevate you to 'root' (Administrator).
Once installed, keep the terminal open and type 'synaptic' and press enter.
The interface with the left column starts with 'All' meaning all applications. Below it are sections of different Software genres, Education, Internet, Science etc.
For a guide on it's use:
Yes, gnome software is really slow to launch. The advantage of this application is that it is easy for beginners to use and supports all package formats, such as .deb (apt) packages, Flatpaks, and Snaps. Synaptic Package Manager is only for apt packages.
In Cases like this, you could try the Following:
- Let Gnome Software open like it is
- Open the System Monitor and check for the Process
gnome-software - End this Process
- The Gnome Software Window will disappear; that is intended
- Open Gnome Software again
