Hello Ladies and Gentlemen!
Zorin 18 is now here:
Let's all have a good Time with it!
Let the party begin!!!
Its going to be a couple days till I can upgrade my system to Zorin OS 18, due to time constraints. I've been told however, that before I do that, I have to remove PPA's I've added to the system first. Unfortunately, since the system lumps all PPA's together, I can't differentiate, except for one, my Star Labs PPA. Based on 3 screenshots I had to take, which PPA's do I need to remove, before starting the OS upgrade process?
Starlabs beta should be removed at all times. Only use that to install a specific piece of software, then remove that repository.
If POP_OS for that repo is using a different gnome version, glibc or other critical base system, an upgrade command could balk your entire Zorin OS build.
libratbag-piper lacks a Noble release file so must be removed.
Ubuntu-X-swat PPA is defunct and should be removed and can remain removed from now on.
All the rest are fine.
You have focal. So, you would have upgrade to Zorin 17 first and then to 18. Wouldn't it be easier to save You Data and make a fresh Install?
Nice to see new release
Does Zorin function like Debian/Ubuntu, with testing repo etc, to have newest packages etc ?
I have Zorin 16 pro that I purchased back in 2020 can I get a little bit off 18? it's because I'm out of work through health reasons
It would be better to make a fresh install but I'm pretty sure you can upgrade via upgrade tool in Zorin 17 to 18
You can use Zorin Core. That is free. You don't have the Pro Desktop Layouts and some preinstalled Software but when that doesn't bother You, You should be fine with Core.
Sure, You can. But not now because it isn't available yet. But @StarTreker has focal in the Screenshots; that means, he/she is on Zorin 16. And You can't directly upgrade from 16 to 18. You have to go 16>17>18.
Is this confirmed? Cause that would mean that I would have to purchase Zorin OS 17 PRO, which really doesn't make much sense to me at this point. I really don't understand why I can't simply upgrade from OS 16 to 18.
It is. You must move up the chain, unable to jump (or skip) a release.
Well, I just checked the Zorin site, and OS 17 PRO is no longer on it anyways, they just have a Core 17 link. I got Steam libraries on 3 drives. I guess I'm going to have to do a steam library backup, on all games installed on the OS 16 drive.
This is going to end up being less fun then I thought, and going to be a lot of work ahead of me, when I'll have to everything, including my theme customization as well. And this means, its going to push the OS 18 project forward, as I don't have the time for it right now.
When purchasing the latest version of Zorin OS (e.g. 18 currently) it includes complimentary upgrades to previous versions so that a user can for example upgrade from 16 to 17 Pro and then from 17 Pro to their purchased 18 Pro.
In your case, as you already have a copy of Zorin OS 18 Pro you can simply enter in it's Support Code to carry out all the upgrades.
Oh, thank goodness for that! To be honest, I was about to cry, thinking of the high labor work I was going to be required to do. You just raised my spirits @zorink thank you so much! ![]()
