The lag continues

When trying to search a file on the system (an image to upload, for example) it just hangs to the point of force quitting.
I've already made a post about this more than a year ago: Lag when uploading files

Please take note of this.
Thank you.

Do you use a browser that is installed as flatpak? Then you should install flatseal to set the permissions for access to users files for this flatpak browser.

Flatpak programs don't have access to users file in your home directory or to system files if you don't give the program the permissions.

You can give the permissions with flatseal that you can install with

"sudo flatpak install flatseal"

and then open flatseal, click on your browser and at filesystem toggle on the slider at "all users files".

Or you can use a browser that is installable as Zorin (=deb) package, then you don't have this problems.

Edit: If you want to use firefox as browser in native package this is a special case. For firefox you need to add the repo of Mozilla and set it as prefered (instructions are on Mozillas Homepage) to get the native package.

Tried all the different available Brave installations... still lags.

Is it slow or can't you upload any images/files?

Do you use an nvidia card? I read that this often happens when a nvidia card is used and is solved by switching to igpu. You could check this so that we can narrow down the problem.

Are you on Wayland or Xorg? I'd recommend to switch to Xorg. At loginscreen click on your profile then a cog wheal appears. There you can set "Zorin desktop on Xorg".

In launchpad I found a solution for this problem, but it is more related to Ubuntu 24. Since I am not familiar with the command and do not want that important dependencies for the Gnome DE are removed, please wait until someone experienced confirms this procedure:

"sudo apt remove xdg-desktop-portal- gnome"

It seems to be needed to give sandboxed apps like flatpaks access to the system, so I am not sure if it really should be removed.

Another solution is to only restart it. I read that a memory leak occured because the ram/vram was not released after opening many files and showing thumbnails. So when it gets slower and slower after a while you could restart it:

"systemctl restart --user xdg-desktop-portal-gnome"

Thank you for your help.

It's extremely slow. When drag and drop is not available, it's a pain.

Not sure... will switch to Zorg and wait for the review.

One thing I noticed some time ago using WhatsApp desktop client was that when uploading an image, it opened up a simpler version of Files and it worked like a charm.

When you upload a file/image to a website, usually "filepicker" is used. It looks similar as Files/Nautilus, the default file manager, but is an own service.
So probably it doesn't help to install another file manager like nemo or thunar to solve the problem, but you could also try this.

If you want to get more solutions for your problem change the category of your thread to "General help". The category "Feedback" usually is more for giving feedback and there you get not so many answers as when you make clear that you are searching for help by solving your problem.
