The main menu app does not save changes

Hey, I just installed Zorin OS and wanted to add a new item to the main menu, but nothing happens when I select OK.

Editing existing elements does not work either, and restarting the system does not help.

Zorin menu is a bit restricted and sometimes makes problems to edit.
Did you choose a picture for the launcher? Maybe that helps. But your entered "test" at command wouldn't launch anything.

If you want to use a more flexible start menu, you can install the gnome extension arc menu. You can set much more layouts with it.
First install gnome extension manager and then browse in gnome extension manager for arc menu and install it (select gnome shell 43).

Editing the icon did the trick... But it's a bit annoying not to be able to edit one item without editing the icon. Because searching for icons for currently installed apps is tedious.

Additionally, after one successful edit, the item seems to fix itself and allows editing without any problems.

Maybe the paths to the icons are "incorrect" right after installation?

I'm glad it helped. I had something like that in the back of my mind, but I wasn't quite sure right away without searching for the thread I had read some time ago.

Yes, this is really awkward because you don't get any feedback/error that an icon needs to be assigned. It just doesn't work.
