There has been growing concern among Forum members about the use of A.I. on Zorin OS and the Zorin Forum.
We will begin with an official statement from the ZorinGroup that they have no intentions or plans to include or inject A.I. into Zorin OS as an operating system.
On the broader helpdesk of the forum; Users remain free to use A.I. at will.
Now that enough time has passed to evaluate the effects of A.I., the Community Moderators are taking an additional step of setting up Guidelines on A.I. usage on the forum.
What we seek to mitigate:
Increased usage of A.I. only solidifies its market staying power.
Increased usage equates to increased usage of real estate, energy supply and natural resources.
Increased usage correlates to decreased usage of problem solving and fundamental understanding of systems by the human mind.
A.I.generated output can contain factual errors, hallucinated suggestions and command prompts, fabricated information, misleading troubleshooting steps, or confidently presented inaccuracies. Because these systems rely heavily on existing internet data, inaccurate output that is propagated without verification will reinforce further misinformation in an increased tainting of the data pool over time.
Humans and A.I. can make mistakes. A.I. has no capacity of thought or the ability to question its own output.
In order to combat all of the above:
1.) Posts made with, using or containing A.I. generated output must disclose clearly that it contains A.I. generated output. This includes a foreword made by the O.P. that details which A.I. service they used. An asterisk with a small print disclaimer at the bottom will not be considered to be clear disclosure.
2.) Posts that include troubleshooting steps must be vetted by the poster before submitting. In the foreword, include what search terms you used and what links you referenced to ensure that the output was genuine and correct.
As you can see, these requirements do not blanket ban anything. Instead, they seek to retain human intelligence and activity in the equation.
All users remain free to use A.I. however they wish. What they must do, however, is refrain from actions that impose A.I. onto unwilling participants.
