Today upgraded 17 core to 18 core broke dual boot but now goes straight into Windows 10

Hi

Just joined the Zorin Forum.

I have had my laptop set up to dual boot into Windows 10 or Zorin 17 core for several months. Love Zorin.

Today I used the Zorin Upgrade tool to go from 17 core to 18 core but after it requested a reboot to complete the upgrade, I find that my laptop now goes straight into Windows 10!

This is a pain!!

Is this upgrade option tested?

Thanks

Paul

The Zorin Upgrader tool is full release and out of Beta.

But a dual boot with Windows can include Windows OS taking control of boot.

THe first easy step I would recommend is to try Boot Repair (Grub repair) in order to reassert Grub to manage boot choice.

Welcome to the Forum!

Are Secure Boot and Fast Boot in BIOS disabled? Is Fast Start-Up in Windows disabled?

You wrote that it ''goes straight into Windows 10''. Does that mean, You don't even get a GRUB Menu?

No Grub menu. My default in the Grub menu was to go to Windows 10.

The Grub menu was set up when I installed Zorin 17 core alongside Windows 10 on my laptop. The Grub menu has been working for months until yesterday when I did the upgrade to 18 core. I modified the Grub to change the default from Zorin to Windows 10.

Do You still have in BIOS and ''ubuntu'' Entry? Using Boot Repair like @Aravisian already suggested is worth a Try, too. When You still have the Zorin Bootstick, start it and run it in Live Mode. there is Boot Repair available.

And in Live Mode GParted is available, too. Open it and make a Screenshot/Picture from the Partitions of the Drive and post it here.

I have just booted my laptop with the Zorin 17 boot USB and chose try Zorin.

Edited the /etc/default/grub file and changed the following two lines:

GRUB_TIMEOUT_STYLE=menu (can't remember what was here)
GRUB_TIMEOUT=10 (it was 0)

Powered off the laptop, removed the Zorin 17 boot USB, and then power it on again.

The Grub menu now is displayed!!

Thank you all.

GRUB_TIMEOUT_STYLE=hidden is what it was in current state will show you the menu everytime you boot up is all for 10 seconds Glad you got it worked out

BTW, my Zorin is now 18 core!

Why does Zorin change the /etc/default/grub file when upgrading from 17 to 18?

Should the file not be left as is to allow for the dual booting option!
