Touchpad HP not working after kernel update (6.8.0-110) on Zorin OS 17

Hello,

I’m using Zorin OS 17 and everything was working fine until recently. After a system update, my touchpad suddenly stopped working.

Here are some details:

  • Kernel version: 6.8.0-110-generic
  • Device: HP laptop
  • The touchpad was working perfectly before the update

I checked with:

xinput list
→ No touchpad device is detected

Also:

cat /proc/bus/input/devices
→ The touchpad does not appear at all

However, an external USB mouse works fine.

I suspect this might be a kernel-related issue.

Question:
Is this a known issue with kernel 6.8 on Zorin OS 17 or HP devices?
Is there a recommended fix or workaround?

Thank you in advance!

Hi and welcome.

If your touchpad was working with an earlier kernel I would advise you hit Esc key repeatedly at boot time (or it might be Left Shift key repeatedly) to view GRUB if it does not load at boot time.

Then choose the previous kernel from 'Advanced Options'.
You then need to place a block on the troublesome kernel to prevent it installing again.
