Hi, Im a newbie to linux and Im lost
So far ive tried multiple downloads of 18.1 & multiple USB and nothing seems to work.
Laptop is a HP i3 14 inch running latest Windows.
Every time I boot to a USB I just get a command prompt. Ive used multi formatted USB sticks and I dont know what Im doing with Linux command prompt.
I cant get BallenaEtcher to work at all so Im using PowerISO to create the boot USB sticks.
So Im a little bit lost at the moment.
If I knew how to start the GUI when I start it I might be better off but totally lost at the moment & starting to think I wasted my money buying this version.
Any ideas or tips I can try?
Welcome to the Forum!
Are Secure Boot and Fast Boot in BIOS disabled? Is Fast Start-Up in Windows disabled? Does Your BIOS run in UEFI or Legacy Mode?
Because You have Windows, I can recommend the Tool Rufus to create the Bootstick. Depending if Your BIOS runs in UEFI or Legacy Mode, choose in Rufus on the ''Partition Sheme'' Option GPT for UEFI or MBR for Legacy. Also format the USB Stick on FAT32.
Hi & thanks for the reply.
Secure Boot is disabled, dont seem to have an option for Fast Boot or Fast Start-Up. Its running in UEFI mode.
Ive opened the Rufus link in another Window, so I will try that
Thanks
Hi
I downloaded Rufus and cannot seem to get the Zorin image onto the disk.
Any suggestions?
I just reopened Rufus and it now lets me but will only format in NTFS, so I will see how that goes.
How much Storage Space does Your USB Stick have? When You have one that has 32GB or less, You should be able to format it to FAT32.
Maybe that was a typo. Fast Start-Up can be found in Windows Power settings. When found, un-tick the box to disable it.
Yes, Thank You.
@Biggzie: Because of my Typo: Fast Start-Up is in Windows. It is in the Power Settings.
Thank you
It all worked and installed through the night.
I have got network problems where its connecting but doesnt seem to go any where, but I will look in to that later when I get time. So its installed & wants to do updates but isnt getting any where yet. But Im all happy.... Thank you
Try open the terminal and copy/paste;
sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade
and post the outcome here.
Also can you mark which post solved your problem. ![]()
Yes, there are at the Moment Update Issues because of a Hackerattack at Canonical. Try updating the System later. I tried it a couple of Minutes ago and it runed fine.
