I am using Zorin 16.
I downloaded the Zorin 18.1 Pro .iso onto my dev/sda and now trying to write the .iso onto an external SSD as a fresh install. But I cannot find the dev/sdb when trying to use "Write To Disk". Could there be a format issue with the brand new SSD dev/sdb?
Or am I not seeing the forest for the trees?
ok..umm so you didnt use a program like rufus, ventoy, or belena etcher to write the .iso to a usb thumb drive?
No I didn't, but perhaps I should?
Thank you!
Hi and welcome.
Just a word of caution. If this is a desktop you are connecting to, I would disable onboard drive in the BIOS or physically disconnect the drive.
I have a Tower with an HDD and a Hotswap Bay for an HDD.
I decided to take Endeavour OS for a spin. Chose the Hotswap Bay drive for install and it decided to wipe my internal drive with my daily driver on it PCLOS Debian, lost everything.
If you are on a Notebook (I refrain from using the term Laptop as it engenders bad practice), make sure you know the name of your internal device to distinguish it from the external device.
Use Disks to find the info.
For installation I find Ventoy the best.
Welcome to the Forum!
That would be the easier Way. When You already on Zorin, You could use a Tool like Popsicle or Impression to create a Bootstick with Zorin 18. When You have a Windows Machine, I can recommend Rufus.
