Turn off screen but keep system running (18.0) (Wayland vs X11 question)

Amateur user here, thx for your patience & help :). I did try to read some posts, but there are so many that it was looking like a "needle in a haystack" situation.

I need to turn off my screen at night while still having sound. Brave browser says I need to switch to X11, since the T command for X11 is short/simple & so is screen reactivation. The Wayland command is very long and reactivation is more complex. I'm using a Lenovo T540p laptop for simple personal uses (email, surfing, youtube, music streaming). Aside from security, are there any negative aspects to switching to X11 for me? What are the security risks? Please let me know if you need more info - thanks.

The Security Thing itself is ... well, it isn't wrong but it is a relative Thing. It doesn't make You free from Responsibility where You get Software that You then install. When You install bad Software, You install bad Software. Wayland can't prevent that.

For technical Foundations, others can better explain that to You. I see it so: When You don't have Issues with Wayland, use Wayland. When You don't have Issues with X11, use X11.

for screen off w/ audio still going u can stay on wayland.

wayland:
-busctl --user set-property org.gnome.Mutter.DisplayConfig /org/gnome/Mutter/DisplayConfig org.gnome.Mutter.DisplayConfig PowerSaveMode i 1
-wake w/ mouse or same command w/ i 0

x11:
-xset dpms force off

if u still wanna flip sessions, gear icon on the login screen → Zorin Desktop on Xorg. for email/youtube/music on a t540p its fine for me.

Thx, nite-route. Do you actually type or copy/paste that long command into terminal each time, or what?

Please explain "same command w/ i 0"? Thanks

Thw w/ stands for ''with''. So, use the Command with i 1 at the End and replace i 1 with i 0

You could pack it in a Script, make it executable, save it and then go to Settings>Keyboard and set a Custom Shortcut to activate it.
