Ubuntu: The Rise and Fall of Linux for Human Beings

This video might be of interest to a few forum members, an interesting tale about Ubuntu, Zorin's parent OS

Whilst the video makes valid points, it confuses Open Software with Free Software. Stallman has said himself, he knows nothing about what Open Software stands for, unlike Free Software which means what it says on the tin, free software, whereas Open Software may lean towards a redaction of certain freedoms. I will give you an example. The video creator applauds Red Hat (now a 'failed' distro as IBM now own it), the OS that forced systemd and Pulse Audio onto other distributions as the way forward. Mir and Wayland are not ways forward, they are broken futures. Software channels get despised even by Windows users (just look at a Chris Titus video where one of the first things he did was to get rid of the Store that came wrapped in Windows 10. I have rediscovered the joy of SysVinit over systemd - try and remove systemd and you remove the whole system, ALSA and Pipewire instead of Pulse Audio - again, try and remove that and the system goes with it. That is why my ultimately preferred distribution is PCLOS Debian KDE Plasma, and whilst it does have systemd, I do also like using Q4OS which cleverly has built its own Look Switcher that pulls in Global Themes from Plasma's Appearance without the end user having to search for Windows XP, 7, 10, 11 or MacOS Themes:

PCLOS and PCLOS Debian both use Synaptic Package Manager effectively, not only for Software Management but also System Updates using purely Synaptic Package Manager which beats any Software Channel anytime and only uses APT and .deb packages. Flatpak, just like Snap is a centralised piece of garbage, and I posted recently about and excellent article on why you should think again before using Snap or Flatpak for installng Software. Just to point out PCLOS Debian has no connections with Debian as it states so on its website - no systemd, no pulse audio - just SysVinit and Pipewire out of the box.

I noticed this as well. I think it is important to focus on the valid points he makes though, that express Centralization, Management and Control as being the Core Causes of Ubuntu's loss of ground. And face.
Those three words accurately summarize his entire point.
