Hi,
I can't properly boot Zorin 18.1 Core. I've tried the usual (disabling fast boot, disabling secure boot, booting with normal / NVIDIA drivers...)
Quite frankly, I don't know what is hindering the process. Installation goes perfectly OK, Zorin detects WiFi, Bluetooth and Disk drives, and I even upgraded the packages in the Live stick. All of this to no avail.
Everything does its job with flying colors, and then, BOOM: bounced back to the Terminal and no WiFi.
My computer is a maxed-out ROG Strix G733QS.
Garuda works
Windows works
Previous versions of Zorin used to work (I can't recall if I'd upgraded the laptop back then, but I'm darn sure it was the same setup)
But I do want to use Zorin as my daily driver.
Any ideas?
Thanks!
id try from that tty on the installed system:
-lsmod | rg 'nvidia|nouveau'
-systemctl status gdm --no-pager
-journalctl -b -u gdm -p err --no-pager | tail -n 40
g733qs is nvidia hybrid so if modules aint there:
-sudo ubuntu-drivers devices
-sudo ubuntu-drivers autoinstall
-sudo reboot
wifi looking dead on a failed graphical boot is usually NetworkManager just not up:
-sudo systemctl start NetworkManager
-nmcli device status

Actually, it was much simpler: DO NOT USE VENTOY!!!
It's funny I hadn't realized before. Ventoy works like a charm for Win11, Garuda Linux, etc..
The problem is that, for Zorin, you need something a little more "granular". The USB Stick must be MBR + BIOS/UEFI. I didn't try with Secure Mode and Fast Boot ON, tho.
So, for all of you, the so-called "distro-hoppers": use Rufus or something similar (I guess "dd" could work...).
Thanks to the Forum - If I hadn't vented this situation, I would never have thought of that middleware.
Problem solved

Personally I have never had an issue with Ventoy, that said I don't boot into Windows these days. If on Windows then use Rufus.
The only time I had a failed boot issue of an .iso was on Ventoy 1.1.16 with a boot error with Q4OS 6.7, but was resolved after an update to 1.1.17, 1.1.16 was the issue. My daily driver (PCLOS Debian) includes the Ventoy app and updates when new releases come out.

I marked Your Post as Solution.
Ventoy offers the Setting for MBR or GPT, too. When You have this little Window to set up a Ventoy Stick, click on the Settings Button and there on Partition Sheme. In Rufus is it directly open - which makes it more prominent.

Yeah, I remembered about that later on. I chose to leave the post untouched in case it could be of any use.
But, again, you are right. Ventoy offers MBR/BIOS-UEFI. Too bad I didn't realize this until recently
Have a nice day!
Edited: I tried to boot with Secure Boot and Fastboot ON. It is working as of now, but this is an already installed system, so I advise to stay on the safe side of it and leave them off.
