As title says, my monitor is capable of operating at 180Hz, however my Refresh Rate settings only show 60Hz. I am running an AMD GPU however all the other forum posts are of nVidia GPU's. I am running 17.3. Can I get some help please?
I haven't heard of a 180-hertz refresh rate before, this is a first for me.
If your GPU is Nvidia, make sure your proprietary driver is installed.
If you still do not see your monitors refresh rate in displays list...
You can try to set it in Compiz APP...
Again, if your GPU is Nvidia, you can try to set it in Nvidia X Server Settings APP.
My monitor is of course 4K 144-hertz.
If your GPU is AMD, the driver should already be in the kernel and functional, unless its a brand new GPU, where its so new, it requires a later kernel to be recognized and configed.
Additionally, make sure you have Secure Boot disabled in your computer's BIOS. Then, once you do that, upon at login screen, click on your name, and click the gear icon
and select Zorin OS desktop, not Wayland!
Do you have multiple monitors connected (more than one monitor)?
How is the monitor connected (HDMI, DP,...)?
With brand new hardware you'll need to install a later kernel and mesa drivers.
I'll give this a try once I'm home. Thank you so much!
I'll make sure to disable my safe boot and update the kernel thank you!
What for an AMD GPU do You have? And how it is connected to Your Monitor?
I have a new AMD gpu and it's connected via HDMI!
I've connected via HDMI and I'll try this right now
Okay, I've disabled safe boot however I'm struggling to understand what's going on. I'm not sure how to properly install and remove and update a newer kernel than 6.11.
Try it with Displayport if possible.
You can follow one of the three methods to install a later kernel in the linked guide. You could try mainline or liquorix, for new hardware liquorix is a good choice, you get kernel 6.17 there.
Can you please tell us the specs of your computer (brand, model, cpu, name of graphics card...), then we can better advice you if you need a later kernel.
I have a Xfx 9060 xt, 7800x3d and an msi b850 mother board. I'll try with a display port. I also think I managed to update to kernel 6.17.8 but screen tearing was bad. I'll do a fresh install again and try with your recommended kernel on liquorix.
If you still have problems add an ppa for latest mesa drivers
Do you have a recommendation for a Linux kernel?
Edit: I will try the drivers on the current kernel when I get home, I hope that fixes the screen tearing.
Liquorix gaming kernel, it's available as ubuntu PPA for easy install.
