Unable to install due to failing self check

I am unable to get past the self-check that the installer does before going into the GUI for the install. It seems like the self-check is consistently failing on 1 file. Once it fails it goes to a black screen and stays there.

This machine is quite powerful.

Things i have tried:
I have dowloaded 17.1 pro multiple times at this point and flashed and reflashed the ISOs.
Tried numerous flash drives ranging from 8gb all the way up to 250gb
Disabled quick boot and all of the other recommendations
Tried multiple USB ports.

Would really like to use this OS as i installed the free version on my son's chrome book and love the look and feel to it. What am I missing?

Which application are you using to create the pendrive?

Try with another:

  • Balena Etcher
  • Ventoy
  • Rufus if you are on windows.

If you are on Linux, you can try directly with Disks application. I've created several with this and never had a problem. (Click the three dots in the title bar, then Restore disk image.... )

Another question is, are you using a pendrive or SD card with an adapter?

If you are using an SD card with an adapter to turn it into a pendrive, It could be the problem with the adapter.

I have an SD card adapter, which causes installation errors. And another older one that always works.

I am using Balena Etcher. I can try Rufus but I think you may be on to something with the adapter question. I am utilizing a USB flash drive but because my computer is newer and doesnt have USB A ports, I have it plugged directly into a docking station instead of into the computer. I assume the dock could be treated as the adapter and the dock may be causing issues?

Maybe i should go get a usb c flash drive and try that first?

I believe that a Dock station can be considered as an adapter.

Does your computer have a microSD slot? If you have it, you can try to use it directly. At least on my machine I can boot normally via microSD directly into the slot. Without using USB.

Of course, if you have a micro SD to do the test.

I have many, so I prefer to use an adapter and use them instead of buying pendrives.

Theoretically it would be enough when You would buy a USB-A to USB-C Adapter to plug it on Your USB-A Stick.

I have seen posts where Balen Etcher has caused problems.

All-

The solution was indeed the dock causing issues; I purchased a usb C flash drive and wrote to it and then installed it with no issues.

Not sure what the problem was; ultimately we may never know.

That last statement is incorrect. If you do a search the issues are down to the fact of speed differences, and the fact that usb-C utilises multiple protocols, including video support.
