Hello again,

Thanks!
Does the Application in the menu executes the application? If not, it many just be the .desktop
file is still there.
It doesn't load the application. How do I get rid of it? LOL.
I'm new to Linux. I tried looking for the shortcut file similar to how it works in Windows.
Thanks!
You might find the files in ~/.local/share/applications
. Find the .desktop
of FreeCAD.
$ sudo apt-get purge freecad
← (Removes FreeCad
entirely)
$ sudo apt-get autoremove
← (Remove unwanted or unneded dependencies)
$ sudo apt update
←(Update)
If it doesn't work, we just wait for others to come.
It's properly a flatpak you installed via Software store. They are stored elsewhere.
Check /var/lib/flatpak/
EDIT: from the picture it tells me it's a flatpak.
@Storm didn't though about it LMAO, I don't use Flatpak
, so I don't know anything about them. @YukKevChuHau You can try the command below:
̶$̶f̶l̶a̶t̶p̶a̶k̶ ̶r̶e̶m̶o̶v̶e̶ ̶f̶r̶e̶e̶c̶a̶d̶
̶ $flatpak uninstall freecad
It's uninstall with flatpak command.
Thank you both for assistance. I have no idea what I'm doing. LOL.
Can I just delete the bottom two folders since they're technically not installed?
The big problem is that I don't use third party application managers like appimage
, Flatpaks
, Snaps
because of their performance and ease of management.
I'm not sure we need to wait for others to take a look at this.
Using your file manager:
left pane > Other locations > computer
Then /usr/share/applications/
Do you see Freecad listed there?
Yep, you can.
Interestingly, Kedrik, you and bourne mention a similar issue here:
LOL. I noticed the thread after I posted. I didn't comment on it though, since I wasn't sure if it's directly related.
It's why I don't use the thing lol...
Have you checked /usr/share/applications?
Hmmm...
Can you check /opt folder?
Check if there is a /usr/share/freecad folder...
Have you rebooted since then?
It's not in either. I also rebooted. LOL. Still in the menu. Grrr.... If only I do use CAD software. LOL.
Use search function to search my /Home and got this result only.
One thing I don't like about the Software Store- it leaves a lot of bloat behind.
With Synaptic, you can remove all that.
You can safely (manually) delete all those Freecad folders / files if you want to.
For something to show up in the app menu, there must be a .desktop file associated with it. These are stored in /usr/share/applications/ or ~/.local/share/applications normally.
There can be a link elsewhere if the installer for the program includes one...
I'd rather not install freecad using Software to test this if I can avoid it. The one in software is a rather old version in the Ubuntu main Universe Repository.
Can you please run in terminal:
flatpak list
and
snap list
and relay the output of each here? Just to be sure.

I actually did try reinstalling and uninstalling FreeCAD a few times trying to get rid of the damn shortcut. LOL Didn't work.
