Hello all!
As you know i tried installing Zorin on newer machine but the kernel need to updated. What we talking on one some topic. The question is which version kernel is ok to not damaged Zorin operating system.
This is what I'm running:
uname -a
Linux HP-Laptop 5.15.0-84-lowlatency #93~20.04.1-Ubuntu SMP PREEMPT Thu Sep 7 08:19:49 UTC 2023 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
I'm running right at the edge of what my setup can handle... higher kernel numbers don't fully support ZFS, and even this kernel doesn't properly handle AMD CPU frequency stepping at the moment... but other than that, it runs smooth as butter.
If you have a newer computer that requires a newer kernel than what comes with the Zorin OS Install .iso, you can install Zorin the normal way. Once installation is complete, reboot as the on-screen prompt says to - except upon reboot, enter directly into the Recovery Menu.
Arrow key down to Enable Networking
Back up to the recovery menu and arrow key down to Root - Drop to Prompt
Add the Tux Invader repo:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:tuxinvader/lts-mainline
and install the 6.3 kernel:
sudo apt update && sudo apt install linux-generic-6.03
Once kernel 6 is installed, back out of the recovery menu and proceed to normal boot.
Slightly off-topic, was curious to see what KDE Neon 5.27 is running and get back:
6.2.0-33-generic #33~22.04.1-Ubuntu SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC
The second idea using another distribution and when comes Zorin then installing a Zorin version. I mean Pro.
