Upgrade Error Zorin 17 Education to Zorin 18 Education

I am trying to upgrade from Education 17 to Education 18. I have installed all updates. Every time I try a problem is encountered. I have copied the report below. Any advice welcome. I have a dual boot system - I don't know if this is a factor?

Open the Terminal and type sudo apt remove libqt5qml5:amd64 and then try the Upgrade again.

That allowed the check to run without problems. Now backing up and will run the upgrade.

All went through fine but then the installation failed on restart. Looks like a clean install.

You mean with that, that this is the Fail?

You might try Grub Repair first. The upgrade may have installed fine, but Grub itself did not get the memo.

Sorry, no, I meant I would have to do a clean install as the upgrade kept failing on boot.

I will have a go at Grub Repair but am not that confident I am an experienced enough Linux user to get there. :grinning_face:

When You still have a Bootstick with Zorin on it, You can use that. start it, go in Live Mode (choose Try Zorin instead of Install Zorin) and these look for ''Boot Repair''. It is available.

Thanks for this. I will bear it in mind when I go to upgrade my sister & friend’s laptops.

In my own case, I had already installed a fresh version into the partition where the original had been and then restored my files from a backup which worked pretty well.

Possibly mine failed at boot on the upgrade because I have Windows and Zorin installed on separate hard drives?

Do You have the Boot Stuff in the Windows Boot Partition installed? Or is it entirely seperated?

I would guess it is separate. Windows is installed in Disc 1. I followed the Zorin installation instructions for multi disk set ups to install Zorin in Disk 0. It is in the 92.74 partition. This is exactly how it was for version 17 too.
