I used ‘HOW TO Easily install a later Kernel (Needs Net Connection) - Tutorials & Guides’, 2021 @ November 4, 2025 liquorix and it seem to have fixed a freezing issue.
I looked up the latest ‘The Linux Kernel Archives’, 2025 @ November 4, 2025, which is 6.17.7, and then upgraded from Zorin OS 17.3 with kernel 6.8 to: kernel 6.17.7-1-liquorix-amd64.
Description of the freezing problem
After an upgrade and some de-installations of un-used programs, the start of some Gnome apps froze the system for 10 seconds, only to return to normal operations. It consistently froze with programs like Sticky Notes, Gnome Characters, and Mahjoong.
A Timeshift to an pre-upgrade state five backups before failed, I could only restore the last backup state.
I then trimmed the system even further, deleting unused snaps and flatpak; and the programs that caused the freezing. The system otherwise runs quick normal. Then, today I did the kernel upgrade and re-installed Gnome Characters (v41): it doesn't freeze anymore.
Operations are normal, again.
