Upgrade to version

Hi there!

I am new to Linux.

I am using Zorin 17, and I recently ran apt update and apt upgrade to update the system, and this is what happened:

So I wanted to be sure that things went smooth, and checked what kernel I was running (I rebooted before doing this):

uname -r
6.5.0-14-generic

and checked what kernels I have installed:

sudo apt list --installed | grep linux-image

linux-image-6.2.0-39-generic/jammy-updates,jammy-security,now 6.2.0-39.40~22.04.1 amd64 [installed,automatic]
linux-image-6.5.0-14-generic/jammy-updates,jammy-security,now 6.5.0-14.14~22.04.1 amd64 [installed,automatic]
linux-image-generic-hwe-22.04/jammy-updates,jammy-security,now 6.5.0.14.14~22.04.7 amd64 [installed,automatic]

So, my question is: am I really running the updated kernel version (with the updated NVidia driver?). If not, how can I use this kernel?

As a side effect, I run apt upgrade again and received the following message:

sudo apt upgrade
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree... Done
Reading state information... Done
Calculating upgrade... Done
The following packages have been kept back:
dnsmasq-base
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 1 not upgraded.

I read that this means that there are two or more packages that need different versions of dnsmasq-base, and so the installer decided to keep them both. Is there something I can do about it? Or should I keep it the way it is?

Thanks for any input.

Hi, thanks for your response. As for the kernel version, my doubt is regarding versions 6.0.5.14.14~22.04.1 and 6.0.5.14.14~22.04.7. Isn't version 04.7 the newest one? If so, this is not the running one.

This is the standard general kernel.

This is the HWE (HardWare Enablement) kernel.

Hi, Aravisian. Thanks for your message.

Ok, so my current understanding is that the HWE is a newer kernel enabling the NVidia card, or maybe even another hardware. But... is this the kernel that is being used? If not, should I make it the running kernel? Remember that my uname -r returns 6.5.0-14-generic, no reference to the HWE.

I came across this page: Kernel/LTSEnablementStack - Ubuntu Wiki(also,Ubuntu%20LTS%20point%20release%20media.

Gonna try and choose the HWE kernel during boot.

The HWE is supplemental, not a replacement.
