If you notice, those instructions are for xorg. Therefore you need to disable Wayland.

How to disable Wayland

Edit the configuration file, sudo nano /etc/gdm3/custom.conf to uncomment [remove # from] the line containing WaylandEnable=false save the file (Ctrl +O and after that press the enter key to confirm save, then Ctrl+ X to exit).
