Virtual keyboard pops out on a non-touch screen - can't disable

I have Zorin 17 and a regular NON-touch screen and the virtual keyboard:

  • pop-out when I type in Firefox, Thunderbird, gedit, Files, but it does not in Vivaldi, Signal, or Sublime Text.
  • A little keyboard icon is always present in the System Tray, and I can only press it to pop the keyboard up. No settings by right-click.

I've tried:

  • Settings > Accessibility> Screen Keyboard [OFF]
  • Removing Caribou (deb nor Snap) - it never was installed.
  • Checking startup applications

Check gnome extensions and disable it via gnome extension manager.

It works like this:

  • open Extensions via menu or dashboard
  • find Zorin Screen Keyboard Button
  • mark it OFF
    and it went away
