after i installed VLC in terminal "sudo apt install vlc", the screen looks strange how do i fix it?
i'm using Zorin OS 17.2 with all latest updates installed, AMD Radeon RX 640, i7 10700 CPU, 1 tb nvme ssd and 32gb ram
Have you tried the "Video" tab on vlc. See if set to interlaced or not. If interlaced try another option
Do You have installed the AV Codecs?
One of the reasons why I hate VLC these days, is because it uses its own internal codec's, many of which don't support modern file formats, and freak out like you see there, which is why I no longer use it. You would think for a piece of software that is supposedly open source, it acts like closed source, when it doesn't use any of the standard codec's. It used to be great software, but is garbage now.
Please consider SMPLAYER instead. It does everything that VLC was supposed to do, and a whole lot more. You can configure just about every aspect of the player, use different rendering engines, codecs, whatever you want. But just configuring the default options to suit my needs, was enough for me.
I have the player set to play at the highest quality possible, I have a fast modern PC, so its no issue. I personally find, that the quality of playback, to be superior over what VLC used to accomplish back in the day. You can even set the player to sync your video/audio if your having an issue.
It can play video's, music, DVD sources, it even has the ability for direct YouTube streaming integration, via a plugin, if you so wish to install. SMPLAYER is highly configurable, and from my perspective, actually comes off as more of an open source player, that actually does the job.
You can find SMPLAYER in the software store, emjoy!
i second that , used VLC before but wasn't happy with it for various reasons .
on smplayer now and it just works , love it !
sudo apt install smplayer
Wow I'm shocked, I've been using VLC for a very long time and never had any issues with it. But I'm always up for alternatives so I'll have to check smplayer at some point.
Some videos i play has issues as well, tried a different player and it works great. The video i played is a mp4 format, it runs hd and during play the image get blurred by the second. After a few seconds it gets back to hd and gets blurred by the second again. Very weird issue, using the stock video player runs just fine.
