Wallpaper Selection Missing On Nemo

Nemo used to have a item in the right hand drop down menu that said "Set as Wallpaper" ..... it now appears to be missing and I have to use the long way around by using Change Background in the right drop down menu of the desktop .....

Then you choose add picture at the very right hand top and go to (in my case) Pictures/Wallpaper/ Folder of various wallpapers and finally click on open .....

Anyone know where the Nemo File Manager Set As Wallpaper went ????? .....

Have you run
gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.background show-desktop-icons false
And set Nemo as the default file manager
xdg-mime default nemo.desktop inode/directory application/x-gnome-saved-search

I think I did but I just ran those again .....

mike@mike-ROG-Strix-G731GT-G731GT:~$ gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.background show-desktop-icons false
mike@mike-ROG-Strix-G731GT-G731GT:~$ xdg-mime default nemo.desktop inode/directory application/x-gnome-saved-search
mike@mike-ROG-Strix-G731GT-G731GT:~$

Was it XFCE that has this feature, not Cinnamon?

Here is the results on Cinnamon .....

There are the exact same settings on Zorin Desktop from the Login drop down menu ...... I'm not sure if 17 Pro uses Xfce or Gnome ..... I'm just guessing Gnome

If you want I can take a picture of the Zorin Desktop same items as above that I took with my phone on Cinnamon ..... but if my memory servers me they are the same .....

Now on Gnome 17 Pro ......

I just now completely removed Nemo using instructions on Ubuntu 22.4 and then with out restarting I installed it again from the same source ......

Same results ..... did this while on Zorin Desktop 17 Pro Gnome DE ..... where for the present I will abide .....

Zorin 17 uses Gnome and Nautilus as the file manager on the core and pro versions. I believe it is XFCE & Thunar on the lite version.

After you made the changes from the tutorials above did you close and restart Nemo before you looked for the change?
I know it sounds like a dumb thing to ask but I've been guilty of not realizing that an app has to be fully restarted to see changes made while it was open. File managers have some services that are running in the back ground and those will need to be restarted as well for changes to take effect.

Some very good points and no I have not restarted my laptop which I will do right now ....... I also wondered about restarting it after deleted Nemo I wondered if it would revert back to Nautilus automatically or not .... I didn't want to be suddenly left with out a file manager before I reinstalled Nemo .....

Back again .... it looks like the file manger changed to Nautilus which doesn't have the wallpaper in the menu either

I also have Thunar installed and when I clicked on it it opened and the Wallpaper appeared in the drop down menu .... so that will work ....

I suppose I could install Thunar but I don't know very much about it cause I've never used it .... I've always just used Nemo for more than 2 years .....

Going to try installing Nemo from the Website I posted above again and if it won't work may have to look at using Thunar if I want to use the Zorin Desktop ..... or back to Cinnamon for everything to work but the shutter sound for screenshot .....

Nemo didn't work so I am going to try and install Thunar ..... the thing I don't like about 17 pro is there is no choice for File Manager in the Default Applications .... or at least I can't find it ....

Thunar installed on Zorin 17 Pro ..... I'll try it awhile and see what happens .... I'll close this thread in a few days if all works out with this new File Manager .....

Thanks for everyone's help sorting this mess out .... I just have to get used to Thunar ...... gonna read up on it now .....

If on Cinnamon D.E., there may be a setting in the Cinnamon Settings app to allow Nemo to manage the desktop.

Thank you for all your help and support ..... I am back on Cinnamon and the item in question "Set as Wallpaper" is now working .... in fact everything buy the shutter sound is working great .....

Now to Gnome .... I did the same thing I did more than a year ago .... removed Nautilus .... yes I know incredibly stupid and I said I would never do it again ..... but I did it and when I reinstalled it every choice in the login menu was gone except two Cinnamon's ..... Gnome and Gnome on Wayland everything else was deleted ......

Cinnamon is just fine but Gnome DE is fried ..... tried to reinstall it but it didn't change .... anyway like I said Cinnamon on DE on Gnome works great .....

Yes I did have a back-up but it is about week old and there were to many changes made since then including my printer ..... I was waiting till I had straightened everything out to do another one ..... but as long as Cinnamon is working I'm OK .....

Here is what my desktop start up screen looks like and then my desktop I haven't seen anything like it but neofetch says it is Gnome .....

Start Screen

Desktop .... this is what you see if you activate the little square in the top left corner ..... you have to use hard shut down to close Gnome nothing on the top left or right to restart or shut down .....

Going back to Cinnamon
