Wayland clearly labeled at login

Should the Zorin OS 17 Login screen include the options:

  • Zorin Desktop on Wayland
  • Zorin desktop on Xorg

It is not unusual that members believe that they do not have Wayland due to this missing clarity.
I cannot find the link, but @zenzen had posted a link outlining the power of defaults.
Currently, it lists only "Zorin Desktop" and "Zorin Desktop on Xorg"
In this, by avoiding clarity to enforce a default, it may do more harm than good.

Yes. Setting aside Linux principles, ideology, and personal preferences, a choice between two options should be clear as to what those options are. I'm not suggesting a mouseover should explain the differences or anything, but I remember while troubleshooting before signing up on this forum, reading about differences in problems between Xorg and Wayland. I was sent off to look up echo $XDG_SESSION_TYPE. That wasn't difficult at all, but when there's a place for that information, and when the alternative is clearly named, there's no good reason not to name the other clearly as well.

Well, there have been a few posts as well from members who did not want Wayland, but had assumed Zorin Desktop was the display protocol they knew (X11) and kept ensuring that was selected. Which... makes sense. It was in 17 that it was introduced on Default - the current version.
They were confused as to why their apps were still not working.
To their mind, they had checked and were not on Wayland.

Right—that's not the problem I had coming in, but that's another very solid reason why both choices should be plainly labeled.

Ironically, I mentioned it in a thread about Wayland  I also agree that the less ambiguous we can make settings, the better.

Yes, I would agree that it would be a good Idea to label it directly to

  • Zorin Desktop on Xorg
  • Zorin Desktop on Wayland
