We, Myanmar, cannot install Proton VPN using terminal

We can't use terminal to add repo links which are banned in our country. Any workaround?

Hi, welcome to Zorin OS.

What exactly are you trying to achieve? If you want to protect your network traffic from your ISP your only real option would be using the Tor network. However, keep in mind that it will be immediately obvious to anyone monitoring the network traffic that you are using it to bypass the country's censorship.

I'm not familiar with the current situation of Myanmar but you should think carefully whether the risk is worth it or not.

Welcome to the Forum!

When it is banned in Your Country ... You could see if a different VPN Service work. Or - like @zenzen already suggested - try the Tor Browser.

But when it is in Your Country already banned, the Question would be: Is it legal in Your Country to use a VPN? If it is not and some Authority recognizes that you use it, You could get in legal Trouble.

TOR browser won't likely help with repo links as Proton VPN's official install uses wget, not a web browser.

You could try a community packaged version of ProtonVPN in the software store if one exists, install the official version using that, and then remove the community package, perhaps. I normally don't recommend using community packaged security software, but if you have to you have to. Bear in mind that you won't be able to properly connect the official install of ProtonVPN while a community version is running, and that this install process is not normal; I can't vouch for it working.

If you only need VPN in a web browser, you might try ProtonVPN's browser extension instead, which is available in most browsers' extension stores.

Above all though, be aware that if you're circumventing a government ban, you put yourself at risk of consequences, and ProtonVPN's linux implementation does not include their stealth protocol meant to make VPN traffic harder to spot. Their Linux client only supports OpenVPN and Wireguard as I recall. It's way behind their Windows client.

To add plainly as you further inquire, we have no legal problem and/or risk of using a VPN so far. We widely use Facebook+Messenger country-wide including the junta officials. We just needed to use a VPN to access Facebook site and app. On other OS other than Linux, we have many choices to get a working free VPN.

There is no legal problem and even the junta's authorities also use VPN to connect the Facebook. The junta just blocked Facebook, Twitter and some sites including websites of VPN.

I am currently trying proton VPN flatpak app and proton VPN openvpn files. Still not getting a result. Government has no problem using a VPN: they just want us to have difficulties in our daily lives.
