I'm really enjoying integration of webapps in Zorin 18 : MS Office 365, OneDrive, Seafile Cloud Drive, Chat DeepSeek - work fast and flawlessly.
One problem though : they are shown in a dash as a gear icon, difficult to distinsuish. Is there any way to assign a specific icon to a specific webapp for dash? Menu icons are assigned by the app, but these are not the icons shown in the dash.
For webapps you could also try to install the Web App Manager from Linux Mint - but I don't know if the icons of the launchers are shown correctly then.
3 gears icons in the middle are OneDrive, Seafile Drive, and DeepSeek Chat : and they all have the same icons, which is a bit dificult to use, if I want to see what webapps are already running.
I'll try the solutions proposed by @Forpli, thanks, I'll report here.
This seems to work fine for me (the first option, not the Linux Mint Web App manager). Although if you add create the web app through the browser directly, it will work right out of the box. It won't appear on the "Web Apps" application, but you can search for it normally in the applications menu and it will launch.
Indeed, the solution from "It's FOSS - 20 Jun 24" worked fine:
Now you see the icons of OneDrive, Seafile Drive, and Chat (3 in between the icons of BitWarden and TexStudio)!!
The problem is worng value of StartupWMClass in .desktop file of each of the web-apps, which one needs to fix manually, right according to the procedure described in the link above.
Hello and good afternoon to everyone in the Community.
I read this thread and went to test the Webapp application. As you can see in the images, I tried the icon editing section, and everything worked fine for me! Before finishing with the "OK" button, clicking on the icon chosen by the app (online) opens an icon tray with hundreds of options! It even has a search box to find the one you're interested in. I replaced the YouTube icon with the Zorin Appearance one as a test, and everything is fine. The only drawback was having to manually delete and pin the new icon to the desktop. Another thing that won me over was the isolated profile feature! I thought it was fantastic!
Interesting, I just tested the current live image - for me, the icon initially appears as the Brave icon. Then after closing the app and reopening from the start menu shortcut, it begins to use the correct icon.
I'm guessing the icon you see is the default icon of Vivaldi web apps maybe?
So it seems it's not picking up the correct icon initially.
No biggie for me, since it only happens right after install.
For you, it never picks up the correct icon though?
No, actually, I've installed Webapps using Web Application tool from Zorin 18. Funny is that after fixing the icon problem, the applications disappear from the list in WebApp tool.
So, for example, I'm installing Mistral AI Chat as WebApp using Zorin Tool :
Hey! I use those web apps too and ran into the same issue.
Turns out, it’s basically a wayland quirk. The easiest fix is to run Zorin on Xorg, since some of Wayland’s security features make this kind of thing a bit tricky.
Alternatively, when creating a custom web app, you can add this launch parameter to force Xorg mode:
Your desktop looks amazing seriously, it's like a burst of color and creativity!
The flashy, colorful vibe wahh!! . Keep doing your thing and have fun !!
I find the Web Apps functionality on Zorin 18 incredibly helpful & have set up some of the cloud-based apps with no native Linux support that I need daily to run this way. This has been working perfectly so far!
One thing I'm wondering though: is it possible to adjust the settings so that a web app running on Brave opens by default in a tabbed window? This would mean that when I open a link in new tab from inside the web app, it opens the tab inside the same window instead of a new, separate window.
