I tried to install a braille translator program and it has the above named missing dependency, which apparently was introduced by Ubuntu 24.04. I get the same error message in Zorin 17.3 Core, not just in Debian. Is there a package that can be installed on Debian and Zorin?
Maybe an earlier version will work?
Gotta love developers that set the dependencies as high as possible or only on the Latest, then restrict access to earlier versions.
I still give input to a VI Forum here in the UK and someone posted about the need for braille translation input and a blind business user was claiming the issue with it was that it was US based - and whilst it is US made it is not US throughout the application for UK users and wanted to use the latest to prove otherwise. In fact I was contacted by an East European user whose family Windows 7 computer died and APH no longer provide version 1 they made for Windows. Fortunately I still had that and uploaded it to my Cloud Storage and also for perpetuity, to Internet Archive.
We should make it illegal for developers to delete old versions, but alas, until enough boomers suffer from all this, nothing will change.
Just to add, when I moved from Feren OS to Devuan, I had a similar issue. I went on the Devuan forum and they advised I contact brailleblaster.org about a missing dependency and never got a response. It appears they are only developing the GNU/Linux version for Ubuntu. This resulted in me being forced to use a VM of Windows 8.1 to run the Windows version when I was working from home. In this country blind users suffered the loss of Standard English Braille by a committee that comprised of 18 sighted people and one blind person. The sighted people railroaded the adoption of inferior Unified English Braille. The biggest problem with UEB is over use of Braille symbols to convey what a sighted person sees, and lengthier Chemistry notation, taking up two lines of Braille, when SEB would contain it in one. Same for Maths too.
