What's a good guide to installing windows alongside Zorin OS?

I found a lot of tutorials on how to install Zorin after Windows is already installed. I'll install Zorin first since I haven't decided the Windows version yet. How do I partition the ssd?

Windows should be installed first, because it is a control freak about the EFI partition.

I would recommend to install Windows first and then Zorin. This should offer a way less Trouble Experience.

It doesn't recognise my ssd when I choose to install alongside windows, only the hdd. I'm using a caddy if that matters

is the SSD picked up at all by gparted or disks if you go into the live mode? Also what connection is the caddy using and are both drives plugged into it or just the SSD?

Yes, I can see it in both gparted and disks, it also shows up if I try to create the partitions manually. The HDD is plugged in the SATA port, and the caddy with the SSD are plugged in the slimline SATA, where the dvd drive was

Also, if I boot it in UEFI mode it says to install alongside Windows Boot Manager instead of Windows 10

Then You should switch to UEFI.

But it still doesn't want to install in the SSD. Is it possible to configure the dual boot manually?

I thought Zorin would make the partition automatically, I shrank the partion and it's installed now

Hey @DarkBeluga - when you're ready to install Windows, I'd recommend disconnecting the drive you installed Zorin on and installing Windows on a different drive. That way it won't mess with your boot files. Once windows is installed, re-connect your Zorin drive to sata0 and the drive with Windows on sata1 so it will see Zorin/grub first. Boot and then do update-grub for grub to detect Windows installation. If you will be installing windows on the same drive (different partition), be prepared for Zorin not to work. Windows will take control of the boot partition and only Windows will work.
