When doing the install for Zorin OS, version 18, I get to the updates and other software screen. When I check the box for: Install third-party software for graphics and Wi-Fi Hardware and additional media formats,
when I click on continue, it asks me to enter in a user name and password, and that I will need to enter that in again after booting. But I still have to enter in my login name.
Why do I need a second username and password, to install this 3rd party drivers? And enter it after boot up?
Is there a way to install these items post install, with out entering in a password? What are the benefits of doing the install of these 3rd party items, during the OS installation?
That is probably be the user creation step you are referring to. Think of it as a local account for the system, you are creating an username and a password for it. You are not entering the username & password to Install the 3rd party software and graphics drivers. Those credentials will be used in post installation when you boot to the actual system and login to the desktop. However if you opt-in for auto login then it won't be needed to enter the password by you manually. But do remember the password, it will be required in some cases -- like when doing a system update, deb app installations or for root privilages.
That happened when I was installing it in VM. And then I did the install again to a physical drive, and it did not ask for a username and password this time at that step. I just had to enter in my standard username and password.
