Is there gonna be a new version of Zorin OS anytime soon? Like Is there going to be Zorin OS 18 release soon?
Hi and welcome. There has already been a thread about this. Based on the release of Zorin 17 I would suspect April next year? Zorin 17 came out in early 2024, so suspect 2026?
Per Zorin, second half of 2025, but that's tentative and could slip.
Oh alright then. Thank you for that info. Looking forward for Zorin OS 18 release
Me too excited for what they have stored for us in the upcoming Zorin 18 version.
Found that ZOS18 is already in production, u can watch progress here:
Looking forward to seeing what Zorin 18 Pro will offer.
I really can't understand why Zorin OS team always intent to launch a new system release exactly when a new version on Ubuntu is almost coming.
As Zorin is based on Ubuntu why to do this?
Why not launch at the end of same year that Ubuntu is launched.
For example: Launch Zorin 18 on December 2026, based on Ubuntu 26.04, only 8 months later. After this time a lot of bugs of Ubuntu 26.04 are already gone.
They could start development early, after Ubuntu 26.04 RC or final.
If they launch Zorin 18 based on Ubuntu 24.04 the packages will be a little old, as Gnome itself. The release will be almost 2 year late.
It might feel weird indeed, but the base OS is not that important for Zorin imo.
Zorin os 17 has the same kernel of Ubuntu 24.04 even though it's based on 22.04. It also has the latest stable NVIDIA drivers
You need to remember, Zorin prides itself on being a stable distro. Team Zorin have to contend with new releases of Ubuntu, new releases of the Gnome Shell and have to tweak each to co-exist with each other and hone the appearance that will work with all these different elements to maintain a familiar interface for Windows migrators. And when previous posters have asked about the next release, my standard response is ..."When it's good, and ready!"
Oh what a slippery slope has started just like last year
Will version 18 be available before the end of the support of Windows 10 ?
Would be a good Timing, but that isn't sure. At the End it is so: Zorin is ready when it's ready.
In my experience, Zorin OS releases usually drop in the fall. Whether thats the official end of Windows 10, I have no idea. Microsoft is well known for doing a lot of bait and switch, when it comes to end of life OS updates.
Just visited it seems very close to zorin os 18.
Yeah! Everything is build since 2 days. I hope it will be this month ^^.
More users need to complain about how far behind Ubuntu and GNOME is on Zorin OS. I see a few every now and then.
I understand stability. I was content with this style before but now it's annoying. It's great for new users, but it is far behind. There are many extensions that we CANNOT install because of the major extension change in GNOME 45, GNOME is on 48 now, going to 49. We are stuck on 42 or 43 (incompatible with some new and modern extensions)
So what if the Kernel is up to date? That isn't as user facing as GNOME is.
I've gotten so happy with GNOME and watching it improve over recent years: excited for all new features, but using Zorin means I can't enjoy those at all for years later. In recent months, I have slowed down researching new GNOME features simply because I wouldn't be able to use it anyway.
Note: I've paid to support Zorin OS multiple times already via Pro. I'm debating whether I should pay again next time to support such a delay. You can keep stable and behind, but offer more up-to-date.
Totally feel this. Stability is great, but at some point it starts feeling like stagnation especially when GNOME keeps evolving and we’re stuck watching from the sidelines. I’ve also hit that wall with extensions and newer features that just aren’t compatible. Zorin has a lot going for it, but I really hope they reconsider their update cadence or offer a more cutting-edge option for users who want to stay current.
Not that I wouldn't welcome more frequent major release versions, but you have to wonder whether you actually need those new packages or you're just under the impression that you do.
That's FOMO at it's finest, and is not unusual. I've seen many people, even in these forums, complaining about package versions as being absolutely necessary. And then, when I checked the change logs for those apps, they were only language translations and minor bug fixes.
I can tell you that I've used many other distributions with much more up to date versions of everything, and I'm still back on Debian. I just don't need the flashy things, whereas I do need stability.
But at the end of the day you must judge for yourself. And for the time being the only way to do so is try out other distributions.
I can personally recommend Fedora, Endeavour OS or OpenSUSE Tumbleweed.
