I tried to create a desktop entry for a tar.gz based application.
Problem is already solved I am just asking for the record.
When I create a menu entry over "Main Menu" by rightclicking in the left corner of the taskbar, where does it store the .desktop file or does it even create one on the system? I tried to add StartupWMClass to the .desktop entry, because the taskbar icon was a gear icon instead of the app's original icon, but couldn't find the entry on my system
Then I managed to create a desktop entry manually.
How should you usually proceed?
The .desktop files are located in one of two places depending on if it is a USER application:
~/.local/share/applications
Or a system wide application:
/usr/share/applications
This is true of what you are asking directly about - though other formats like Flatpak will complicate the answer (Flatpaks are in /var, instead...)

I am talking about menu entries created via Main Menu itself. Could not locate them with Fsearch aswell as with the locate command
These entries create .desktop files and these will be located in the directory I listed above.
If you cannot find them, maybe identifying the software will help, in case that is one of the outliers. Like, Vivaldi stores in /opt.
I installed Grayjay from grayjay.app. I can see the flatpak .desktop, but when I create a .desktop for the tar.gz it wont show as a file on my system. Only in the menu itself.
Maybe try create any x.desktop file for a custom exec and try find it on system, bc I cannot
What do you show for terminal output of (This is LS in all lower case)
ls ~/.local/share/applications
Is it shown there?
If not, try
ls /usr/share/applications
I think we are talking past each other. ls for either directory shows desktop entries but not the ones made over main menu.
