Which zorin version u prefer most?

I mean zorin core version

For me I like zorin 16.3 and I wanna install it again I like its vibes because it is the first linux distro that I loved and I have so many memories with it .

The last version that I used myself directly was Zorin OS 16 Core, and it was a massive improvement over version 15. From what I've seen, version 17 is getting a lot of updates for things that users have requested for a long time, which I really like. But I still cannot say that is my favorite as I haven't tried it thoroughly for my day to day, so 16 Core remains the top choice for me.

I personally miss the background changing frequently depending on time in Zorin 16. Now all we have is dark and light in the core version. And sure, I can go and make it technically work as it did before, but it's not as clean, and sometimes when a gnome update comes through, it breaks the functionality and I have to set it up again. Not a fan.

Now on the lite version, I can make it work and it just stays working. I really just wish the lite version became core from this point on, but I know that absolutely is not happening.

You mean the Zorin Mountain that changes with the Daytime? If yes, You can simply copy it from Zorin 16.

Like the mountain that had i think 5 different colours for different times of day, plus there were a few other ones (you could also add your own without messing about too much). Now it's strictly, here's the dark nighttime version, and here's the daytime version.

I think I'm a weird one today where most people I see have dark application modes all the time, but that really annoys me, even at night I have light version of the applications, but I would still love the background changing over time. It was just something minor that I liked to watch every once in a while.

I've only been with Zorin for 17.1 and 17.2, which aren't terribly different from one another for my uses, so I'll say "17.x" at the moment.

I need to figure out how to get the wallpapers changing by time like others have mentioned. I saw the light/dark mountain wallpaper switch, but I didn't see any controls for when switches should occur or which backgrounds to use. I don't have any use for light mode, but I WOULD like having my wallpaper switch from something "professional" to something fun based on my work hours.

Yes, that is it. You can use that on Zorin 17, too. I have wrote in the Past a Description for that:

I wouldn't call that weird. When You like a light Environment, you like that.

From what I understand, dark themes are far more eye straining than light themes precisely because of the contrast. I'm not sure how much of this is actually true, but I do feel it myself when reading a lot of text online, e-books, etc.

So, while I like dark themes most of the time, I don't always use it. My sweet spot is somewhere between Nord and Dracula i.e.: Catppuccin Frappé.

I find light more eyestraining. It's like looking into, well, a light, because that's precisely what you're doing. It didn't used to bother me, because light themes were what I was used to, but having gotten used to dark, even websites with white backgrounds make me squint a bit. (Paper is a bit different; it doesn't tire my eyes the same way.) I don't need everything to be pitch black, but I do need not to have vast seas of shining white. On the other hand, people with astigmatism in particular may have white text on black "halo," becoming harder to read and forcing them to strain their eyes to do so. I have astigmatism myself, but with glasses correcting it, I don't have this problem (unless the glasses are dirty).

All that said, the relatively authoritative links I could find on the subject all demurred, saying there's no conclusive research either way.

You guys are experts with tangents.

For me light is more eyestrain. Two hours and my eyes are burning.
On dark themes, it is three or four before they burn.

I do have some vision issues, having lost the sight in one eye in recent years, and a few issues in the 'good' one. I can't bear dark mode - even a few seconds of it really stresses me. Light mode all the way, please! Its such a relief to my entire system. I hate when a new app installs in dark mode now, and I have to spend a few minutes grappling with it until I find light mode.

On topic: 17.2 because I needed the new kernel for my new laptop.
I like the interface differences over 16.3.
17.1 seemed snappier on my ancient laptop than 16.3 did, but I was very happy with both.

I remember doing a training video for colleagues during lockdown on changing the default GIMP interface of the 2.10 version which was way too dark. I prefer it when apps respect the system theme.

Hopefully more up to date apps are now respecting system theme.

For photo editing I much prefer having a medium grey background environment within the editor so I can correctly judge colour and density. I worked in a professional photographer's studio for some years doing their in-house film developing and printing, then guided their transition to Digital, Mac system 5 I think it was). I developed a very good eye for colour, balance, density.

I don't get why most photo editors seem to have such near-dark workspaces, at least by default. I have always disliked Lightroom (my old non subscription version) that the interface is stuck on dark. I am consistently off in my edits and have to finish in a different editor. I'll be learning Darktable this autumn, in parallel.

Seriously off-topic now. Sorry!

I was just playing with custom key shortcut bindings in Zorin - absolutely love the power this gives. I ZorinOS is such a breath of fresh air after Windows.

U r not alone lol

I've been using Zorin 17's night time mountain wallpaper almost exclusively since I installed. I really enjoy landscapes with no sign of humanity, and those mountains are gorgeous.
