I originally built my PC for Windows 11—the hardware runs perfectly with it. Nevertheless, I personally had had enough of Microsoft. The main reasons for this were the increasing integration of Microsoft services such as Microsoft 365, Copilot, and OneDrive, as well as the sometimes intrusive advertising in the Start menu. In addition, a Microsoft account is now required for the Home Edition.
Since I enjoy pursuing my hobby on the side—a small web radio station of my own (for those interested: https://www.shout-fm.de/
)—I always faced a major obstacle with Linux: How could I get my livestream setup working with my hardware again? I use a GOXLR as an external sound card, and until now, that has been difficult under Linux.
With Zorin 18, I had to change the following setting for the GOXLR.
After this intervention, my GOXLR also runs without any problems with Zorin 18.
With Zorin 17, I didn't have to do that; Zorin 17 displayed the external GOXLR sound card correctly right away. But luckily, FrostyCoolSlug posted the solution for Zorin 18 (Ubuntu 24.04) on GitHub.
That solved my last problems. So: Windows 11 down, Zorin OS 18 up – and since then, Zorin has been my daily system.
It's so liberating to be Microsoft-free, many thanks to @AZorin & @zorink
I'm listening to those now. Let me also bestow a gift upon you all. There is a game called Stray, where you play as an Orange Tabby cat. The game has an awesome synthwave soundtrack. I loved it so much, I bought the soundtrack, and put it on my phone. I rather listen to that while mowing the lawn, then the garbage kids listen to today. SWARF & I know whats good!
Also, I love this synthwave from Subnautica Below Zero game as well. Enjoy!
