Why not Gnome 48 and above instead of version 46

Why does Zorin consistently lag behind in software versions? Even Zorin Pro is still running GNOME 46. Why is there still no update to GNOME 48 or beyond? GNOME most recent version is 51 today! These persistent version delays are seriously frustrating!

Zorin is a LTS distribution and based on Ubuntu LTS 24.04 with uses gnome 46.

Welcome to the Forum!

Zorin follows the LTS Distro Model. With that, You have a fix Software Stand where only Security Updates and Bug Fixes come. It can have some Exceptions for Browser for Example but the System itself stands on these Versions. Because Zorin is based on Ubuntu 24.04 it uses Gnome 46. You find that on Ubuntu 24.02 LTS, too.

If You prefer a more recent Gnome Desktop Version, maybe the LTS Model doesn't suit You. You could try instead Fedora which goes a (Semi-)Rolling Release Model. So, You get there more current Software Versions including the Gnome Desktop.

If You prefer .deb, You could take a Look at Debian sid which is the unstable Branch of Debian. There coming continuosly new Updates and it has a current Gnome Desktop. Or PikaOS could be an Option, too.

Because the Pro Version doesn't differ in the essential Components. It offers additional Desktop Layouts and preinstalled Software and Support.

Once Zorin jumps to 26.04 the Gnome will be 50-51. heard rumors(only rumors so far) that when Zorin OS 19 releases it maybe based on Ubuntu 26.04. now this is just hearsay and rumors we are a year or more away from a new version. so guess we will see whats new as time passes
