Wi-Fi USB Adapter compatible with Zorin?

Hello guys,

since my laptop’s wifi card isn’t compatible with Linux at all, can you give me some advice what Wi-Fi USB adapter to buy? What Wi-Fi adapter did you buy?

I am on a budget.

Thanks

First of all, to optimize performance, the adapter's generation (wifi 5,6,6e or 7) should match the most recent generation your router supports.

I use an adapter with Intel wifi chipset. Drivers for these are in the Linux kernel - nothing extra to install - and it works well.

Thanks, but what if I have wifi via mobile hotspot and don’t use router?

A mobile hotspot still uses Wi-Fi technology, so check the device acting as the entry point to see if it uses Wi-Fi 5, 6, 7, and so on.

Note that a network card that supports Wi-Fi 7 will typically support lower versions as well, especially considering these are still relatively new.

I heard TP-LINK Archer T3U Nano usually works with Zorin via plug & play

MT7902, right?
Those do not get along with Linux.
I've never tried this, but someone created a ndis wrapper a while back
Have you tried it? GitHub - hmtheboy154/gen4-mt7902
Also, there's also the possibility of replacing the wifi card with another one, for which the Linux kernel has the drivers.

Yes unfortunately, will try that link thank you. Heard Intel cards are great for Linux but idk if I want to risk it

If you're dead set on an Wi-Fi USB adapter, this works for sure. Link: CLICK HERE.

Good luck.

What do you think about TP-Link T2U Nano? Since it’s more affordable and doesn’t have an antenna

The Nano is awesome, uses less space, keeps notebook more streamlined, and less of an accidental, break off the computer incident. The downside, it only supports 600MBps, but if thats all you have for an internet connection, it will be fine!

If you have a gigabit connection however, the 1300MBps adapter would be the better choice, as well as having an extended antenna, getting the signal to the adapter better. It all depends on what your needs are.

This is awesome, so you think Nano will work with the latest Zorin Os Core? Kernel 6.14?

The manufacturer doesn't provide official support for it, so we have no way to tell for sure. But there are reports from people that have made it work, for example:

Hi, sorry to bother you with a question. Do you think it might work? It's a Realtek chip RTL8822.

I suggest you also do a websearch using "RTL8822 Ubuntu 24.04" assuming you have Z18. (i.e. Z18=Ubuntu 24.04)

Unfortunately at some point you'd have to just try it. Hardware support for Linux is not as good as it could be since the consumer market share is simply not that big, and manufacturers don't test their products as thoroughly for Linux, if at all. But keep in mind that you can probably return within a few days at least, no questions asked.

By the way, you can take a look at this page to see some recommended adapters:

Hi, thank you so much. I knew you were wonderful people (inside and out). I was looking at a TP-Link Micro USB adapter; at the store they showed me five, all the same brand. Only one had a box that said it was compatible with Linux. I saw the driver info on GitHub for the one you mentioned in the comments. Thanks for your help!
