Wifi crashes when opening the network displays app

Hi. I'am running Zorin OS 16 Pro on an Dell XPS 9500
When i'am opening the Network Displays app the wifi seems to somehow crash.
Running
sudo systemctl restart network-manager.service
Gets the wifi back up.
Anhy ideas why this is happening?

Can you check Device supports active Monitor (You may need to scroll down a bit...):

iw list

Also, please check here if this driver is a better match for your system:

Could not find the Line Device Supports active monitor so i guess not

Also this computer av a Killer Wifi card i think so i dont know if the Realtek driver will work?

It's such a common one though... see what happens when I get into a hurry...

What model of Killer Wireless is it?

Off-hand, looks like Killer Wireless should work with the 5.11 kernel (Zorin OS) as it was patched in kernel 5.10. That is pretty recent, though...
But you may need to update the BIOS firmware on the computer for it to work.:expressionless:
At least you have net connection.

It is the Killer AX1650s
Yes this is not an critical issue at all for me, avoiding the network display app is no problem.

Do you think this info might help?

Hi. Thanks for the suggestion.
It seems the system already autodetected and is running this driver i think.

So it is working the way it should now?

No. This is the driver it has choosen. So this is the config that does not work.

However it seems to bee only the Network Display App so it is not a big deal for me.

Yes, this is a strange symptom. I have never heard of this particular issue before. I agree that at least it is not a show stopper... It's annoying to not know something, though.

Hehe yes agreed.

I have this problem on an HP Omen Gaming Laptop. It's a bit annoying as I actually want to stream to my TV :frowning: I've raised a ticket because I have the Pro version of ZOrin OS

Exact same issue on a Dell XPS 9310 with Zorin Pro 16.2!
Running Gnome Network Displays immediately crashes the WiFi. I usually restart the entire laptop to fix it
Any more solutions?

Did a bit of web searching using "Gnome Network Displays Ubuntu 20.04 crashes WiFi".

Seems Gnome Network Displays is problematic on newer versions of Ubuntu. See: Ubuntu 20.04 LTS / 21.10 + Samsung 6 Series (#221) · Issues · GNOME / gnome-network-displays · GitLab

Do you see any error messages?

Nope, no error messages.

I checked out the issue, and compiled wpa_supplicant with the following steps: steps to compile wpa_supplicant ubuntu 16 - LinuxTopic

Still didn't work.

This issue still exists and is happening to me as well. Has anyone figured this out by now?

flatpak run org.gnome.NetworkDisplays

I figured that this could be caused by the fact that the version of GNOME Network Displays is a flippin' flatpak - went into Synaptic and tried to install the -dev and force the Ubuntu version of xdg-desktop-portal which would have downgraded it to 1.6.0-1ubuntu2(focal-updates); but no joy because there was an error after hitting apply. Tried again later, and was able to complete this "downgrade" and used Synaptic to Lock Version. Retried Network Displays application and waited for my WiFi to crash again - it happened the same way. systemctl restart NetworkManager.service

It would be swell if we could get a look at this problem and find a fix, but all my searches ended up taking me to places where people were doing the same and coming up empty with regard to a fix. Lots of attempted workarounds, but the only workarounds that seemed to work are those which involved getting a Chromecast device or wiring up the PC with an HDMI and using a wireless keyboard - which I'm doing right now.

In fact, the only reason I came across this problem is because I couldn't find a reliable source which detailed how to set up whole-DESKTOP casting with Chromecast, not using a browser to cast a browser page... I want to use my TV as a second screen so I want to cast my entire desktop with mouse/audio/fps/resolution support. If Chromecast can actually do this, I have yet to find the way so I would also appreciate someone's input in that regard as well. Until then I will continue my search.
