Wifi disabling when computer is put in sleep mode

Just to be sure, this mean I have to buy a new component faor my pc and then install it ?

Yes, but a dongle is a USB plug n' play device. No disassembly required.

and just to be clear, I am still on Zorin 1 beta, don't think it make quite a difference as the problem was here on 17.3 and 18, but just in case.

oh nice, i'll take a look about it

Yes, I am quite sure that this is in the MediaTek firmware.
That is a limitation of drivers and the Linux Kernel - they can act as a bridge and communicate with the device, but cannot control it.
Relying an instruction is not the same as control.

The firmware of a device is its operating system, separate and independent of the operating system you are using, Windows OS, Zorin OS or Mac OS.

got it, thanks for your help
I'll keep you updated if the USB dongle works

I was just wondering if there were a distro that could be compatible with my wifi card ? Or is it just Linux in general that is not compatible ?

So... what drives me, is recurring issues on the forum that lead to looking up bug reports.
There are many documented reports on the MediaTek cards having firmware issues - the wifi not waking with the computer is pretty common.

And... some things work to get around it. Like disabling aspm. Or setting a script to refresh it upon wake. Or applying a firmware patch... It is touch and go.
Making an honest effort is the first step in a thread.

And sometimes it comes down to this. Where we are left exhausting ideas and running out of options.

Yes, it is possible it may work on another distro that has a different set of configurations or kernel modesetting.
But this too is hit or miss. I do not know which ones might have more luck or if any would - as it seems more a firmware issue within MediaTek.
How a distro communicates with that firmware can affect the final result.
But even that is somewhat luck and workaround.

You could try it with Fedora. There are relatively up-to-date. You could put it on an USB Stick, start it and run it in Live Mode and test if it works.

it work with fedora, I'll try with Zorin 18 when it will be fully released
