WiFi vanished, HP 250 G8 Notebook

OK, I got a little further:
lsmod should display the module for the WiFi adapter, but it doesn't as far as I can tell:

Or is one of theese the correct module?

r8169 86016 0
realtek 32768 1

Can someone tell me if this is correct or how I can load the module?

Or am I just spinning something together?

How can it not have a port for it... but does have the hardware on the motherboard that shows up in your lshw command?

Weird.

I see bluetooth listed in this. Does Bluetooth work?

These are Ethernet. Which - again... confusing since you do not have a port.
Who built this thing? (HP...)
https://h20195.www2.hp.com/v2/GetPDF.aspx/c06913991.pdf

According to this, it should be located as the first port in the back left side (Annotation number 11).

Because I would need to buy a additive DisplayPort Adapter or an USB-C Adapter.
That makes it really thin what I like

I see bluetooth listed in this. Does Bluetooth work?

Yes but my mobile (Sony Xperia F3311) shows the USB-Tethering option greyed out and I cant use it.

Ýes HP built that consumer Notebook, bought it in Kaufland ( a supermarket here with wholesale department). You shold know that all big hardware manufacturers brew their own soup, also DELL does so

Ah yes you're right, sorry thought that would be the mini-DisplayPort plug as its really thin, But its a hinged RJ45 plug. never seen that before. But nevertheless Zorin does not show the network option in the Gnome system tray also a reboot does not change that nor I get network. Cant use ifconfig as net-tools is not installed yet but it's also showing "cable not plugged in" in the Settings menu altough Its connected to my FritzBox.

Maybe that has to do with my decision to use the alternative driver when I had connection issues wich was coming from the CyberAttack BS of the WEF as I think now.

Also tried to use my FRITZ!WLAN Stick AC 430 but it also doesn't work!

There must be an issue that Zorin has with the Network drivers on HW-Layer Level 3 transport to Level 6!
I also have similar issues with the OnboardSoundcard(ALC221)on my (Zorin)Desktop (EliteDesk 705 G1 MT) which is sometimes losing the connection and needs a reboot to work again

It was working before - and suddenly stopped working. And all the drivers check out and show as installed.

At this point - I must question the integrity of the hardware itself.

performed a hardware check:

~$ ip l show
1: lo: <LOOPBACK,UP,LOWER_UP> mtu 65536 qdisc noqueue state UNKNOWN mode DEFAULT group default qlen 1000
link/loopback 00:00:00:00:00:00 brd 00:00:00:00:00:00
2: eno1: <NO-CARRIER,BROADCAST,MULTICAST,UP> mtu 1500 qdisc fq_codel state DOWN mode DEFAULT group default qlen 1000
link/ether c8:5a:cf:6d:11:0e brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff
altname enp1s0

there seem to be no issues or did I use the wrong command?

Try

tail -f /var/log/messages

as well...

sudo tail -f /var/log/messages
[sudo] Passwort für rfnx:
tail: '/var/log/messages' kann nicht zum Lesen geöffnet werden: Datei oder Verzeichnis nicht gefunden
tail: Keine Dateien mehr übrig

/var/log/messages not found!

Ok let's try

sudo tail -f /var/log/boot.log

sudo tail -f /var/log/boot.log

Do you have Secure Boot enabled in your BIOS EFI Settings?

yes its enabled

Are you dual Booting with Windows?

Secure Boot is for Windows Only. It is a lot like a bouncer at a bar with a list of invited guests. If someone is not on the list, they don't get in.
MS signed many Linux packages (in good faith) but did not sign them all...

Booting with Secure Boot enabled on Linux can be risky that some drivers won't get initialized.

No! I HATE Windows and that Gates influence!!!

But I have a good message finally:

Turning off secure boot made the network work again!

So this issue is solved and the thread can be closed!

Thank y'all for your great support! :+1: :+1: :+1:

Solution was that SecureBoot is producing issues with the alternative RTL8821CE driver!
