WinBoat on Zorin OS in the Future?

Hello Ladies and Gentlemen!

I saw this new Blog Post from Zorin OS:

It's about Donations from Zorin to other Projects. There was a very interesting Thing in it. there donated to WinBoat. this new Project for running Windows Programs on Linux. And there was the last Sentence:

However, it represents a promising step towards being able to run all of your favourite Windows apps in Zorin OS in the near future.

That seems to mean that WinBoat will be land in Zorin OS ''in the near future''. What came there to my Mind: If it will be an Addition to the existing Windows App support with WINE and Bottles or will it replace it? We will see what will happen.

It has gotten very popular recently, I've seen it mentioned in other sites as well. I have personally not used it, but I've also not had much luck with Wine either. My understanding is that this creates an actual VM as opposed to a compatibility layer, so it's probably better suited for most cases. I assume there's also some resource overhead but probably an acceptable tradeoff.

I had it installed on fedora before moving over to zorin. It downloads a docker instance of windows and integrates it. When the docker windows is running, it takes quite a bit of system resources but I wonder if they've been optimizing that since then. It was still in alpha when I tried it. It would be awesome if they used something like tiny 11. But it definitely runs windows so any app is now available. Not sure about hardware acceleration or gaming though. It was fun to play around with. I don't need any windows apps or I'd be installing it on zorin.

Yes, I got that email, and I can say I was honestly surprised, that they were donating money to other projects, instead of using that money to improve their own. Zorin OS 18 is pretty much a glorified train wreck, compared to the previous 2 versions, it needs so much more work and polish, its crazy! They can do whatever they want with their money, but its not a sound business decision I'd make.

So, is the donation going to be like a bribe, to pay to get permission, to integrate these APPS into the OS going further, so people can have a better experience with OS 18 and beyond? Cause I gotta be honest, I am not at all impressed, with the OS18 trainwreck. Were getting daily help requests, for things that shouldn't be an issue. OS18, was released before it was finished.

Well, it is related Stuff. So, supporting this is indirect supporting Yourself.

If I were to take a guess it would be that 18 was rushed through to coincide with Win 10 support ending.

I realize others are having trouble with 18, but I installed from scratch and it's been smooth sailing. I guess I got lucky? Blessed? So it at least works for one person. I come from windows, though, so that's my baseline for functional.

no issues with 18 on my end either, I did a direct upgrade on my Gaming PC, and Laptop and my 3rd device was a fresh install which was a Microsoft Surface Pro 4

As someone who works in Tech, its smooth sailing for the majority of people but a minority will experience all of the weird bugs and hijinks and wonder what the heck is going on
