Windows 10 virtual

Hi All
Quick question. I have a Toshiba Satelite l750. I have installed Zorin 17 on it & a windows 10 virtual. No problems there. The one & only program I need in windows works fine ( garmin express to update a garmin gps ) What I cant seem to find out. What happens at the end of support for windows 10 ? Is a virtual windows 10 vunerable ? Can this affect my host unit ?
I have seen that it may be possible to put windows 11 on unsuported machienes ?
Should I consider this ?

Is a virtual windows 10 vunerable ?

Yes.

Can this affect my host unit ?

No, other than if you move files across and execute the file that is infected.

Windows 11 on unsupported machines, Yes. I have it running on an Acer Aspire A0725 from 2011 I think. From what I've read / watched, Windows 10 will be vulnerable but affecting your host machine, the chances are extremely slim. So, highly unlikely but not an absolute zero chance. I have Windows 11 running in a VM as well. No issues.

So since all I will be doing on the Windows virtual machine is updating my GPS and it wont affect the zorin side dosent seem worth the hassle to try & install windows 11.:grin:

If it was me; I would not bother either. A direct and honest answer (e.g., yes, 10 is more vulnerable) does not make it applicable. Win11 is vulnerable, too. Once you connect to the internet or place a computer near other people: It becomes vulnerable.
If you are only keeping your Garmin GPS up to date, then you are less vulnerable and safer even if your were using Win XP than most people running Win 11 with Defender enabled that use it as a daily machine.
That sentence was intentionally left long.

Just for safety, make a backup of your VM in an offline location should it get hit with a nasty. DJ Ware did point out in one of his videos that if you install Windows 11 on an unsupported machine and something goes wrong you won't get any official support, so make a system backup using rescuezilla.
