Windows App support for Exe is FANTASTIC

I have Warcraft 3's disk based edition from decades back and found the reccomended Lutris method absolutely painful for this games setup, I transfered the files from disk to PC and was simply able to double click and run Warcraft 3 with no issues from the windows app support for Exe. With NO TWEAKING.

Great work making life easy for the users on Zorin I consider this feature as one of the many strong reasons I use Zorin on my Laptop,

I was also able to implement the widescreen fixes for warcraft 3 simply by drag and dropping the file into my install and the windows app support also detected this and implemented the fix automatically with no issues.

I set up old Counter strike on my brother laptop with Zorin. He's new to linux and me guidance and 20 years of Linux experience help him a lot settle in Linux eco systems.

He was blown away when realized he could play retro Counter strike and Half-life on his Zorin Pro system.

So far he's having fun with Linux thanks to truly well maid beginner friendly distro. Zorin is true gem.

Bdw, I use Arch :joy:
... and Ubuntu
... on dual boot. :slightly_smiling_face:

I found it fantastic for Warcraft 3 and for some of my other old windows games that were a nightmare to get setup on other distros having it preset is fantastic.

One thing I like about open source as a mod maker, is that usually for a modding community once someone solves a problem, the solution is just there and now everyone can focus on other things.

I also like that Zorin has that .exe support instantly (it's a solved problem)* that not everyone wants to spend time figuring it out again

Yes I remember my painful experience with Wine for the first time. I'm glad newbie's focused distro like Zorin solved that problem right away. That's the correct approach. Newbies should not be messing with Wine. It only will discourage them to deep dive in Linux.

Every learning process needs a time. I'd say someone who is mid-average orientated in Linux after let's say 2-5 years (depending on individual learning pace and willingness) is ready to absorbing true learning Linux pain, that could be sometimes very frustrating. But also very rewarding at the end of reaching the desired goal.

I don't mess with Wine anymore unless I have to. Like setting up Windows native games on Linux for my brother. But on my own machine I have no need for Microsoft ■■■■. I'm happy with what's in Linux eco system.

But I get the nostalgia urge to play oldies from millennia era like CS. I totally get it. And that's when the Wine gets in play.

I'm the same way folks! While I do have an appreciation for some modern games, I too still appreciate the 2000's & 90's classics. Any 2012 era gaming machine can play all those however.

I bought this machine for modern games, and so far, 4-years later, its still holding up nicely.

I now have 5TB of total storage too. ..

2 - 1-TB Wastern Digital NVME internal drives PCI Gen-3. 1 1-TB Samsung USB 3 external SSD drive. 1 2-TB Western Digital Black external NVME USB 3.0 drive.

Also, the Screenfetch fails to say that my 3080 GPU is got 16GB of VRAM, which totally matters in 2025 & beyond, not so much in 2021 when 8GB was still good enough. Now days experts recommend a minimum of 12GB of VRAM. Lets just say my machine aint hurting for performance, RAM, or storage. lol

I forgot to mention that my machine is an MSI Raider notebook BTW.
