There is a great video (ok it is over 2 years old) but explains the history of both, and why X11 will still be needed in years to come, gaming!:
Don't understand me wrong: I don't see that X11 will disappear in the next Time. But the Wayland Development have made Progress in this Time - especially in the Plasma and Gnome Desktop.
Maybe but look at all the posts that have appeared on here about issues with Wayland. DJ Ware gave an excellent discourse on the problems/issues with both pieces of code.
Yes, here are Problems. No doubt. When one of the Standard-Suggestions in an Issue is to switch to Xorg it is obvious.
But You have to think about a Point: Zorin is an LTS Distro with an older Gnome Version (43). And the newest Gnome Version is 47. And 48 will come soo. So, in the Gnome Version of Zorin 17 you don't have the Progress of the newer Versions. In Plasma it is the same.
Well we will just have to 'suck it and see', like Honda producing a few hundred CX-500 Motorcycles who made the engine bearings bigger than the races they sat in!
It's always good to know where things come from. A little look back can make a massive difference understanding the reason why some things are and where are they headed.
I watched this video a while back that talks about that history:
DJ Ware covered all of that and more.
I'll stick with what works, X11. Last thing I need are problems with Wayland, when I got other things going on. X11 works, why change a good thing. It seems like everyone who tried Wayland, ended up regretting it.
The first thing I did after installing Zorin over my old windows 10 was disabling Wayland...
This really makes a difference. I'm not saying Wayland's great, bail on X11, but when I'm on Nobara I don't experience any of the problems Wayland gives me on Zorin. Wayland may be good/ok/bad/awful/utterly terrible, but whatever it actually is, using it on Zorin takes another adjective or two to the right on that list.
